You insert personalization into an email in the Email editor: click into a text block, open Personalization in the toolbar above it and choose the data, for example Short salutation (name). A tag in double curly brackets is inserted into the text, for example {{ contact_salutation_first_name_vocative }}, and when sending, Quanda replaces it for each recipient with the data from their contact. Addressing people by name is the right step toward a higher open rate and toward recipients reading the whole email.

This is what an email with a personalized salutation looks like, Quanda fills in the highlighted text from the contact:

Which salutations you can insert

Menu item Tag Example result
Long salutation with surname {{ contact_salutation_last_name }} Dear Mr. Smith
Long salutation with name {{ contact_salutation_first_name }} Hi Jane
Short salutation (surname) {{ contact_salutation_last_name_vocative }} Smith
Short salutation (name) {{ contact_salutation_first_name_vocative }} Jane

A long salutation includes a greeting, for example "Dear Mr." or "Dear Ms." with the surname, or "Hi" or "Hello" with the first name. A short salutation is just the name, which you can combine with your own greeting, for example "Happy Thursday, {{ contact_salutation_first_name_vocative }}" when you know the campaign goes out on a Thursday. For Czech, Slovak and Polish names, the short salutation uses the vocative case, the grammatical form used when addressing someone.

Besides salutations, the Personalization menu contains other contact data, such as title, first name, surname, email, phone, address, job title and custom fields, and sender data, such as the sender's name, phone or Sender Signature.

Where the salutations come from

Salutations are stored with contacts during import. Contact automations in the English interface do not create them, so you prepare them in the import file, see Creating salutations during import. Check that your contacts have them filled in before you use them in a campaign.

How to put a salutation into the email subject

You can insert personalization into the subject as well. Insert it into a text block, copy the tag including the curly brackets and paste it into the E-mail Subject field above the editor. How to work with the editor is explained in Email editor of a simple email campaign.
