The width of an image in an email equals the email width minus the margins. The default email width in Quanda is 650 px and you can set it from 480 to 800 px. With all margins at zero, a full width image is 650 px wide. Quanda calculates the height automatically from the aspect ratio. We recommend preparing images at the width they will display at, or slightly larger, with each file under 2 MB.

How the image width is calculated

An image always adapts to the space it has in the email. That space is given by the email width and the margins, both the margins of the email page and those of the Image component itself.

Email width Left and right image padding Image width in the email
650 px 0 px and 0 px 650 px
650 px 20 px and 20 px 610 px
730 px 15 px and 15 px 700 px

Quanda scales a larger image down, so it does not matter if the image is a little wider. We still recommend getting as close as possible to the actual width the image will display at. An unnecessarily large file takes longer to load for recipients.

Where to set the email width and image margins

  1. Email width: in the Email editor, click the cog in the right panel. Under General Settings you choose a width from 480 to 800 px.
  2. Image margins: click the image in the email. At the very bottom of the right panel you will find Block Padding with the Top, Bottom, Right and Left fields.
  3. Width in percent: in the image's right panel you can shrink the image with the Width slider, and the Show full width on mobile switch makes it stretch across the whole screen on a phone.

How to insert a small image or icon

If the image is smaller than the space in the email, for example a small icon or logo, click it and turn on Original size in the right panel. The image then shows in its real size and does not stretch.

How large the file can be

We recommend that no image uploaded to a campaign is larger than 2 MB. Smaller files load faster, especially on mobile data.

Our tip: For our own emails we use a width of 730 px and insert images 800 px wide into the Image component. Once inserted, the image shrinks slightly to 730 px minus the padding you set and stays sharp.

How to prepare an image is described in How to crop an image to a specific size and How to resize an image online. Working with components is explained in Email editor of a simple email campaign.
