Contact scoring by open rate is a Quanda tool that places every contact into one of seven segments, from Fans to Ghosts, by the average open rate of your emails. On the Recipients page you can then remove contacts that have not read your emails for a long time from a campaign with one click. This protects your sender reputation, and more of your emails reach the primary inbox.
Which segments Quanda uses
| Segment | Average open rate |
|---|---|
| Fans | 80 % to 100 % |
| Active | 50 % to 79.9 % |
| Inactive | 20 % to 49.9 % |
| Sleeping | 5 % to 19.9 % |
| Zombies | 0.1 % to 4.9 % |
| Ghosts | 0 % |
| Unknown | contacts that have not been sent at least 6 campaigns yet |
The Unknown segment is not bad news. Quanda just does not have enough data to place the contact yet.
How to use segments in a campaign
Simple, A/B and logic campaign:
- On the Recipients page, click I want to improve openability below the openability estimate.
- The Analysis of the openability of selected contacts panel shows the selected contacts split into segments.
- For weaker segments, click Remove contacts from the campaign. The Remove recommended button removes all recommended segments at once.
- Confirm the changes with Done.

Email series and birthday wishes: on the Recipients page, in the Send from selected contacts to these segments part, switch individual segments on or off. More in Selecting recipients for an email series.
You can also filter contacts by segment in the contact list using the Segment field.
Why remove inactive contacts from campaigns
Mail servers judge a sender's reputation partly by whether people open, click and reply to its emails. The fewer emails you send to addresses that do not work and to people who do not read them, the better your reputation and the more emails end up where they should. Successfully delivering an email to the junk folder brings you nothing.
Removing a contact from a campaign does not delete it from the database. Do limit communication with inactive contacts significantly, though. You can send Zombies and Ghosts one reactivation email asking whether they still want your emails. For some of them, removing them helps your reputation.
How to keep a good sender reputation
- Send regularly.
- Avoid large swings in the number of emails sent within a week and a month.
- Only send to people who want your emails.
- Do not hide the unsubscribe link.
- Do not give recipients a reason to mark your email as spam. That happens most often when you send too many emails, content without value or emails to people who do not want them.
- Prioritize recipients who often open and click your emails.
Frequently asked questions
Quanda places every contact into one of seven segments by how often it opens your emails. The segments show who reads your emails and who you send them to in vain, and they help protect your sender reputation.
The contact has not received at least six campaigns yet, so Quanda does not have enough data to place it. That is normal for newly collected contacts.
In a simple, A/B or logic campaign, click I want to improve openability on the Recipients page and then Remove contacts from the campaign for weaker segments, or Remove recommended. Confirm with Done. In a series or birthday wishes, switch segments off with the toggles.
You do not have to. Removing a contact from a campaign does not delete it from the database. We recommend limiting communication with them significantly or sending them one reactivation email. For some of them, though, removing them helps your reputation.
Mail servers judge a sender's reputation partly by whether recipients open its emails. The fewer emails you send to people who do not read them, the more of your emails land in the primary inbox instead of the junk folder.
