A transactional email is an email you prepare in Quanda in advance and an automation sends when a contact meets a condition. Automations in email campaigns, active forms and online surveys use it. You create it in the top Transactional emails menu with the Create a new E-mail button and you have to activate it before use.
How it differs from a simple campaign
The steps are almost the same as for a simple email campaign. There are two differences:
- You do not choose recipients. The Recipients page only says that recipients are selected automatically according to the automation settings. You continue with the Done → E-mail editor button.
- You do not send the email, you activate it. Instead of the Sending Settings page, a transactional email has an Activation page, and instead of sending the campaign it has a Campaign activation section. An activated email waits until an automation uses it.
Settings, the email editor, sender settings, the spam test and test emails work just like in a simple campaign.
How to create and activate a transactional email
- In the top menu, open Transactional emails and click Create a new E-mail.
- On the Settings page, check the name, language and project manager.
- On the Recipients page you do not choose anyone, click Done → E-mail editor.
- In the email editor, pick a template, fill in the subject line and build the content of the email.
- On the Activation page, set the sender, send yourself a test email and activate the email in the Campaign activation section.
The Transactional emails overview then shows the email with the status Ready to use. From there you can copy it with Create a copy and open its statistics with Results.
How to use a transactional email
- In a simple campaign: on the Automation page you choose the action Send email and pick an activated transactional email. This is how you send a second wave to people who did not open or did not click.
- In a form: the action that sends an email goes to the new contact, the notification action lets you or a colleague know.
- In a survey: a transactional email thanks people for filling it in or sends a link to the survey.
To resend the same email, save the finished campaign as a template in the email editor and pick it in the transactional email under Your templates. The texts, images and links stay the same and you only change the subject line.
A transactional email after a click on an offer
The whole second wave process with data from our campaigns is described in the article Second wave email.

Frequently asked questions
It is an email you prepare in advance that an automation sends when a contact meets a condition. Automations in email campaigns, active forms and online surveys use it. Without a transactional email you cannot set up an automation that sends an email.
In two ways. You do not choose recipients, because the automation decides who gets it. And you do not send the email, you activate it: instead of the Sending Settings page it has an Activation page with the Campaign activation section. Settings and the email editor work just like in a simple campaign.
Automations only offer activated transactional emails. Open the email under Transactional emails, go to the Activation page and activate it in the Campaign activation section. The overview then shows the status Ready to use.
In the email editor of the finished campaign, save it with the Save your email as a new template icon. Then pick that template in the transactional email under Your templates. This is handy for resending to people who did not open the first email.
Yes. Just like a campaign, the Activation page has a Test e-mails sending section where you enter up to three addresses. You will also find the spam test there.
