You import contacts into Quanda under Contacts, Bulk Contacts Import: upload an xlsx or CSV file, choose the priority for contacts you already have, map the file columns to Quanda fields and finish the import. The import runs in the background and the results arrive by email.

Prepare the file first as described in Export of contacts and preparation for their import. Quanda accepts xlsx files and delimited CSV files in UTF-8 encoding. It does not support the CSV (MS-DOS) and CSV (Macintosh) formats.

What to set up before your first import

If you want Quanda to fill in custom fields, add tags or send an email during the import, set up contact automations under Contacts, Automation first. Salutations are prepared in the import file, see Creating salutations during import.

How to import contacts step by step

  1. In the top menu, open Contacts, Bulk Contacts Import.
  2. Next to Choose a file with contacts, click Upload File and pick the prepared file.
  3. In Select priority when importing Contacts, choose Existing Contacts or Imported Contacts.
  4. In Select priority when importing Companies, choose Existing Companies or Imported Companies.
  5. Click Start importing contacts.
  6. On the next page, map the file columns to the Quanda fields.
  7. Scroll to the very bottom and click Finish contact import.

How to choose the import priority

Quanda stores each email address only once. The priority therefore says what happens when an imported email is already in Quanda:

  • Existing Contacts: Quanda skips the contact and does not edit or update anything. Use it when you upload a new list and do not want to change data you already have.
  • Imported Contacts: Quanda updates all data you map on the next page. Details and tags can be added, corrected or removed. Use it when you fix or extend your database with the file.

Either way, an email that is not in Quanda yet is created as a new contact with all mapped data. The company priority works the same way.

How to map columns to fields

The second page of the import shows the Quanda fields. Open the menu for each field and pick the column from your file that belongs there: first name to first name, surname to surname, gender to gender and so on. Leave fields you do not want to import empty. Do not forget to map the tags column, otherwise selecting campaign recipients will be harder.

Where to find the import results

A progress bar on the page shows how the import is going. The import runs in the background, though, so you do not have to wait with larger files. When it is done, you get an email with the results, and the same report is at the very bottom of the Bulk Contacts Import page in the Results of the last import section. What the results contain and how to fix failed rows is described in Results of a bulk contact import.

Frequently asked questions

In the top menu, open Contacts and Bulk Contacts Import. There you upload the file, choose the import priority and continue with the Start importing contacts button.

The priority decides what happens when an imported email is already in Quanda. Existing Contacts means Quanda skips that contact and changes nothing. Imported Contacts means Quanda updates all mapped data for it.

No. Quanda stores each email address only once. That is why you choose the import priority, which tells Quanda what to do with emails already in the database.

No. The import runs in the background and you get an email with the results when it is done. The results are also at the very bottom of the Bulk Contacts Import page in the Results of the last import section.

The import results contain an error table with the row number in the source file, the column, the Quanda field and the wrong value. Fix a few errors manually. With more errors, correct the file and run the import again.
