You track clicks from Quanda emails in Google Analytics 4 by checking Insert Google Analytics Tracking Code for a link in the email editor. Quanda then adds UTM parameters to the link, so Google Analytics recognizes that the visit came from your email campaign. You will see what people do on your website after the click, for example whether they ordered or sent an enquiry.
How to turn on tracking in Quanda
- In the email editor, insert a link or a button and click it.
- Check the Insert Google Analytics Tracking Code box.
- Optionally enter a keyword that makes the link easy to find in Google Analytics.
Do this for every link you want to measure. A link without the box checked shows up in Google Analytics as a regular visit with no information about where it came from.
Which parameters Quanda adds to the link
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| utm_source | Quanda |
| utm_medium | |
| utm_campaign | campaign name |
| utm_content | email subject line |
| utm_term | the keyword you enter for the link |
Name the keyword after the role of the link in the email, for example main button, footer link or a specific product. When every campaign names its links the same way, you can compare them over time.
Where to find the results in Google Analytics 4
In the left menu of Google Analytics 4, select Reports, click Acquisition and then Traffic acquisition. In the table, change the primary dimension to Session campaign and you will see visits from each email campaign. Data reaches Google Analytics with a delay, so check it a day or two after sending.
How to measure results, not just visits
To see which emails bring results, mark important actions on your website as key events (formerly goals) in Google Analytics 4, for example an enquiry, a registration or a purchase. In Admin, under Data display, click Events. Find an existing event in the Recent events tab and mark it as a key event with the star icon next to it. For a new event, switch on Mark as key event when you create it.
You see the clicks themselves right away in the campaign statistics in Quanda. How to raise the click-through rate is described in Email click-through rate: 8 mistakes that lower it.
